Sketchbooks

Sketchbooks are an important element in Margaret Borthwick's art. She uses them to record details  seen on walks and develop ideas. She is fascinated by artists' sketchbooks especially those of Duncan Shanks, Victoria Crowe and Graham Sutherland.

 

She included two sketchbooks produced over two years in her 'Heartlands' degree show and her viewers felt that they increased their enjoyment in and understanding of the local environment and what she was wanting to portray.

Margaret continues to sketch regularly often with a friend who is a professional storyteller.
